放线菌Streptomyces venezuelae BioVector NTCC质粒载体菌种细胞基因保藏中心
The genus Streptomyces consists of soil and water Gram positive filamentous bacteria well known for their ability to produce complex secondary metabolites including many antibiotics. Additionally they undergo complex multicellular development, with spores germinating to form a branched, multinucleoid substrate mycelium, which then produces an aerial mycelium which septates into uninucleoid spores. Streptomyces is also unusual in having linear chromosomes with terminal inverted repeats with terminal proteins covalently bound to their 5' ends. Streptomyces venezuelae strain ATCC 10712, isolated from soil in Caracas, Venezuela in about 1948, grows in a diffuse and homogenous manner in a variety of liquid media, and in some sporulates to near completion. This growth characteristic reduces the physiological heterogeneity inevitably associated with the irregularly sized mycelial clumps observed in most actinomycete liquid cultures. Chloramphenicol, the first antibiotic to be manufactured synthetically on a large scale, was originally derived from this strain of S. venezuelae
