Isolation
Pool of liver and spleen suspension of BALB/c mice exhibiting rough coats and hunched position
Comments
The MHV-A59 virus was isolated from BALB/c mice in which Moloney murine leukemia had been serially passaged by i.p. injection of homogenates of liver, spleen, thymus and lymph node. It is possible that the preparation still contains murine leukemia virus.
Effect on Host
Yes, in vitro effects: Cytopathic effects in tissue culture
CPE, rounding and sloughing, attached and floating syncytial debris
Growth Medium NCTC 135 medium, 90%; horse serum, 10%
Recommended Host
NCTC clone 1469 cells (ATCC CCL-9.1)
Recommended Host: NCTC 1469 (ATCC CCL-9.1)
Growth Conditions
Incubation: 18 to 24 hours at 37°C, a 5%CO2 in air atmosphere is recommended
Recommendations for Infection: For best results cells should be 24 to 48 hours old and 80% - 90% confluent (not 100% confluent).
Temperature: 37°C
