WW domain-containing E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase 1WW domain-containing E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase 1 (WWP1) is a multifunction protein containing an N-terminal C2 domain, four tandem WW domains for substrate binding, and a C-terminal catalytic HECT domain for ubiquitin transferring. WWP1 is a HECT-type ubiquitin E3 ligase that has been implicated in various pathologies. WWP1 is an obesity-inducible E3 ubiquitin ligase that can protect against obesity-associated oxidative stress in WAT. WWP1 which is frequently up-regulated in multiple human malignancies has been demonstrated to play a critical function in cell proliferation, apoptosis, and invasion. Polyubiquitination by the ubiquitin E3 ligase WWP1 suppressed the dimerization, membrane recruitment, and function of PTEN.
